New York Jets Draft Focus: Making the Case for Allen Robinson

The New York Jets have a few big priorities heading towards the 2014 NFL Draft, one being a play maker at wide out...

G.M. John Idzik remains extremely deliberate in constructing a formidable competitive 53 man roster that will contend for a playoff spot next season... This free agency started off slow and crawled even slower with the front office of the New York Jets standing firm in their beliefs of the value of talent in free agency... They were able to address a couple of needs while signing former Bronco Eric Decker they still have a need opposite him in the starting rotation...

The Jets need a dynamic play maker type receiver and this is where we introduce former Penn State WR Allen Robinson... Robinson stands at 6'2" about 220 pounds and possesses an effective combination of size and exceptional athleticism... He clocked a 4.60 40 at the NFL Combine while improving those numbers at Penn State's Pro Day w/ the wind 4.48 40, and against the wind 4.50... He has demonstrated outstanding leaping ability in the broad jump 127" which placed him as the top performer in that category at the NFL Combine...

Allen registered 97Receptions for 1,432Yards and 6Touchdowns in his final collegiate season, averaging a solid 14.8YPC... He features long arms (32"), which, when combined with his leaping ability, enables him to make catches over the top of defensive backs...

He is a physical presence who can bully defensive backs and make tough catches against tight coverage... The Jets don't currently possess a play making talent like Robinson, who would immediately become a supreme red-zone and third-down target for either starting QB...

Quote:
According to Dane Brugler of CBSSports, Robinson is an efficient route-runner, able to find soft spots in zones. He works well in traffic, and while Brugler notes that Robinson doesn't possess terrific vertical speed, he believes that the receiver will improve upon his ability to gain separation by fine-tuning his footwork. Robinson is a good athlete who would greatly improve the Jets' depth at receiver.
Pre-Combine, CBSSports ranks Robinson as the 7thBest available receiver in this year's draft, specifically because of his athleticism... After his strong Pro Day his value has soared to the top of the 2nd Tier group of wide outs mainly ahead of Brandin Cooks, Odell Beckham Jr. and Kelvin Benjamin...
